Race #2 of the #TrailsRoc Trail Runner Of the Year series is complete –
Medved Madness was run this Sunday in typical Western New York spring conditions. The sun was shining, the trails were a mix of dry hard pack ridge-line and mucky muddy low areas and the post race food was on point as usual.
Sponsored by local running store Medved Running and Walking Outfitters, Madness is hosted at Mendon Ponds Park. The race consists of 3, 5 mile loops giving a great sample of the trails the park has to offer. In addition to a wonderful The North Face shirt to the first 300 runners, Madness also has one of the best post race meals around, a chicken BBQ with all the fixin’s.
Not part of the TROY series, but an important aspect of the event is the option for a relay with 3 runners, each tackling one leg of the race.
Results:
Mike, Twohig pulled away from Muddy Sneaker winner EJ Boyce to win in 1:42:48. He was followed Closely by Boyce in 1:46:38 with a significant gap to 3rd place overall Jamie Hobbs coming in at 1:57:08.
The ladies race was won by Allison Thut in 2:07:24, followed by Katie Ghidiu less than one minute later in 2:08:2. Rounding out the womens podium place was Miranda Betances in 3rd at 2:10:55

While the solo 15 milers are how #TrailsRoc scores the TROY series, there was a lot of fun and competition to be had with the relay as well. The Craig Curtice Experience brought home the hardware as both the overall winning relay and the top mixed relay.
